As a result of the new situation in the country and for safety reasons, regretfully for the many sports lovers who eagerly awaited this event, this year’s traditional Wizz Air Skopje Marathon was canceled at the request of the competent institutions.
“We express our deep regret for the current situation and we sympathize with the families of the deceased soldiers. Because of security breach in the state, Wizz Air Skopje Marathon was canceled. We are aware that in this way, the marathon sympathizers from many countries, have been disappointed. We were preparing for this event throughout the whole year with a lot of effort and enthusiasm, eagerly awaiting the beginning and the celebration of one of the most respected and visited sports events in the country, but this was the only way, through preventive measures, to ensure the safety of all involved, which of course was and still is our main priority.
We are deeply thanking all supporters. Our message to the public is all of us to remain united!”- the Organizing Committee of the Wizz Air Skopje Marathon declared in a statement.
The organizer of Wizz Air Skopje Marathon made a final decision regarding the ways in which they will compensate to the participants and partners, volunteers and fans of this event. Namely, the first decision states that, if all necessary conditions are met for the organization of an event of this kind, a 5 km entertaining race will take place, scheduled for 20th of September and it will be an open event, free of charge, for all of the participants of the marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, as well as for those who planned to win those 5 kilometers through the streets of Skopje on 10th of May this year.
All registered marathoners, half marathoners, as well as those planned to be part of this year’s marathon relay during Wizz Air Skopje Marathon 2015, in one of the next three year, they will have the opportunity to choose when and in which race they will participate, without any additional fee. They will be able to choose between the marathon race, the half-marathon race and the marathon relay.
Another novelty is the cooperation with “RunCzech”, which are organizers of 7 races in the Czech Republic, including the famous Prague Marathon, which to all of participants of the marathon, half marathon and the marathon relay of the Wizz Air Skopje Marathon 2015, will allow free participation in some of the races of RunCzech, that will take place at the end of 2015.
An ideal opportunity, for anyone who is interested, would be the half marathon race in Usti nad Labem, where RunCzech and Wizz Air Skopje Marathon will organize a special program on the day of the race.
The Organizing Board of the Wizz Air Skopje Marathon, regarding all of the large quantities of food that were provided for the competitors and the volunteers by the companies Vitalia and Atlantik, decided to donate them to charities, such as: the Army of Republic of Macedonia, the Shelter for asylum seekers, the Rehabilitation Center for children with disability, The Centre for underdeveloped children, Centre for educationally neglected children 25th of May, Centre for Democratic Development and initiatives and The Day care center for children of the street.
